Il 7 May 2025 pm 15:00 Will be held at Roma, At the Physical Sciences Hall ofNational Academy of the Lincei a Palazzo Corsini, a conference in honor of Michele Caputo by Title “Systemic Interdisciplinarity: Michele Caputo's Mathematical Physics for Structural Economics and Geodynamics”.
Already Director from 1974 to 1976 of the then National Institute of Geophysics (ING), today National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), Michele Caputo is a pioneer of geophysical knowledge, geodynamics and seismology, both nationally and internationally. Born in Ferrara in 1927, the geophysicist has been the protagonist of numerous discoveries, such as the subduction of the lithosphere under the Apennines and the seismotectonics of the Mediterranean, the creation of modern catalogues of national seismicity and tsunamis and is a great source of inspiration for numerous students who have contributed to the improvement of knowledge in Geosciences over the last sixty years.
In the collection of essays “Memory, Mathematics and Economics”, published in 2019 in the "Memorie" series of the Class of Moral Sciences of the Lincei, Caputo presented an analysis with an interdisciplinary approach on role of memory through a functional mathematical formalism. His results demonstrate that the memory formalism is crucial for modeling many economic phenomena.
