On the island of Salina, from 8 to 11 September, the fifth edition of the "Green Salina Energy Days" event as part of the European program "Clean Energy for EU islands".

The event, dedicated to key aspects of the energy transition of small islands, is organized by ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) in collaboration with the Energy Department of the Sicilian Region, by theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), Siremar, F3 Motors Messina - Reggio Calabria, Messina Community Foundation, NESOI - Eu Islands Facilities, Ports of the Strait and RDS - System Research and by ENEL.

Scientists and energy operators will present various models of "Electric mobility on land and at sea" discussing possible systems for the production and exploitation of renewable energy. The particular attention to these issues is part of the energy transition process of Salina and the smaller Sicilian islands covered by the recent INGV-Regione Siciliana agreement.

"Environment, landscape plans and renewable sources in the smaller Sicilian islands" will be the speech by Francesco Italiano, former Director of the Palermo Section of INGV.
Furthermore, during the works of Salina Green Energy, INGV and the Energy Department of the Sicilian Region will meet the Mayors and Energy Managers of Lipari and the three Municipalities of Salina to discuss the role of geothermal energy as an additional renewable source for the islands Aeolian. In fact, the great advantage of the non-periodicity of production, a limiting factor for solar and wind power, and its availability in most of the smaller Italian islands, makes this energy source particularly interesting for the development of the Sicilian islands.

If on one hand research in recent years has developed knowledge on the availability and characteristics of geothermal systems, present on the national territory and in particular in the Aeolian archipelago and Pantelleriaon the other hand, the exploitation of these resources did not follow.
To date, the use of geothermal energy is aimed at the production of electricity but, in a new vision of eco-sustainable use, geothermal fluids can also be used for the recovery of mineral resources. All the islands are small emerged areas of large buildings that develop in an underwater environmentThe possible use of geothermal energy in these areas aims to consider offshore geothermal energy as a new target for industrial development.

Green Salina Energy Days | The energy transition of small islands for new industrial development objectives
