Silvia Peppoloni, a researcher at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), is the winner of the 2026 Distinguished Service Award., awarded by the Geological Society of London (GSL)The prestigious award, established in 1998, is given annually to geoscientists who have distinguished themselves by their significant contributions to the development of geosciences and the strengthening of the international scientific community. 


Founder, former General Secretary and currently President of the International Association for Promoting Geoethicsthe INGV researcher stood out for her pioneering approach In redefining and disseminating geosciences through the integration of scientific knowledge, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability. He has also authoritatively led international scientific collaborations, fostering the creation of structures and initiatives that have placed geoethics at the center of global scientific debate. 

The award also recognizes Silvia Peppoloni's strong commitment to promoting values ​​such as diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, as well as her support for researchers in the early stages of their careers.

The awards ceremony will take place on 17 June 2026 at Burlington House, the home of the GSL, in London.
