Paolo Papale, Research Director of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), has been appointed Vice-President of theEuropean Academy and Chair of Class B "Exact Sciences" which brings together the sections of Mathematics, Physics, Informatics, Engineering, Chemistry, Earth and Cosmic Sciences.
Graduated in Geological Sciences at the University of Pisa, Paolo Papale deals with the physics of volcanism. He has participated in numerous national and international projects in the fields of volcanic hazards and the physics of volcanism, carrying out research in the field of physical-mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of magmatic and volcanic processes, modeling of the thermodynamic and rheological properties of magmas, and quantification of volcanic hazard.
Founded in Cambridge in 1988, the Academia Europaea sets itself the goal the advancement and dissemination of excellence in studies in the humanities, law, economics, social and political sciences, mathematics, medicine and in all branches of the natural and technological sciences anywhere in the world.
