From 2 to 9 October 2022 the , the scientific festival which since 2012 has been a fixed appointment for the dissemination and communication of Geosciences.
THENational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) is present in its tenth edition, to strengthen knowledge and awareness of the geological, environmental, natural and cultural heritage of our country.
La event will be animated by numerous “Geo-events” scheduled throughout the country: excursions, walks, open doors in museums and research centres, exhibitions, conferences and workshops organized by universities, schools, research bodies, local bodies, cultural and scientific associations.
INGV will be present with the Geo-event
Monday-Tuesday, 3rd and 4th October | CAMeC, La Spezia
ore 9:00-10:30 | 11:00-12:30 | 14:30-16:00
IT'S ALL ABOUT CLIMATE, FROM THE PAST TO THE FUTURE
Studying paleoclimates and the elements that influence climate is more essential than ever to reduce the consequences of human activity on our planet. We have been “recording” climate change since the past: what awaits us in the future? We'll find out together in a meeting / game with the National Council of Geologists and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. We will play in teams to understand the causes and effects of climate change, with the tools provided by the stratigraphy cycle and the most innovative scientific methods. To win, each team will have to draw on their knowledge and know how to find virtuous solutions and behaviors to adopt starting from the individual up to the global scale, to mitigate the phenomena associated with climate change, one of the most urgent issues of our time.
Recommended: secondary school students
Entrance free with registration: compulsory by 29 September 2022

Thursday 13th October | Palazzo Migliaresi, Rampe Cappuccini, Rione Terra, Pozzuoli (NA)
hours 9: 30-13: 00
RIONE TERRA: BRADYSISM, DEEP TIME AND BIRTH OF MODERN GEOLOGY FROM DICEARCHIA TO POZZUOLI
The Campi Flegrei, west of the city of Naples, are a volcanic field characterized by explosive volcanism and caldera collapses connected to two highly explosive eruptions, Ignimbrite Campana (39 ka) and Neapolitan Yellow Tufo (15 ka).
In the area there have been ups and downs of the ground for over 2000 years, a phenomenon known as bradyseism.
The Rione Terra is one of the oldest volcanoes of the Phlegraean volcanic activity of the last 14 ka and develops within the caldera collapse produced by the eruption of the Neapolitan Yellow Tufo, it constitutes the tuffaceous promontory that leans towards the sea in correspondence with the city of Pozzuoli.
Due to bradyseism, the promontory underwent a period of long submersion which contributed to the dismantling of part of its original morphology, further modified by the action of man, as evidenced by the numerous caves overlooking the sea dug for the extraction of the tuff .
Bradyseismic crises with ground upheavals indicate the resumption of endogenous activity in the area. The dangerousness of the places, however, has never discouraged the Pozzuoli community which, through recovery projects, has decided to coexist with its volcanoes and with the stratifications and historical and archaeological testimonies that have occurred over the centuries.
Rione Terra becomes an emblematic example of coexistence and coexistence of the Pozzuoli community with permanent volcanic, seismic and bradyseismic risks.
The excursion will be guided by the Coordination researchers and preceded by
scientific insights as well as the theatrical reading "The burning lands between myth and history".
Characteristics of the excursion - reservation required:
distance: 1 km;
height difference: 5 m.
