The event that brings together Earth Science scholars to address, from a scientific point of view, some of the most important current issues in the context of the sustainable development of the planet is back.

From the 16 to the 18 September, in the spaces of the Padova Congress Centre, the SIMP-SGI Joint Congress 2025, with an edition entitled “Geosciences and the Challenges of the 21st Century”.

The appointment, organized by Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology (SIMP) e Italian Geological Society (SGI), is sponsored by theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and is proposed as a space for meeting, dialogue and comparison on The role of geosciences in building the future of planet Earth.

The proceedings will open on Monday 15 September with an inaugural Round Table moderated by Roger Fourth, former Senator of the Republic, in the presence, among others, of Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of University and Research, In the Musumeci, Minister of Civil Protection and Maritime Policies, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Adolfo Urso, Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Rodolfo Carosi, SGI President, Paul Mazzoleni, SIMP President, and Fabio Florindo, President of INGV.

"Geosciences have always been dedicated to addressing complex challenges such as those arising from some of the 'symbolic phenomena' of contemporary times: from global warming to rising sea levels, through desertification and the increase in extreme weather events."Comments Florindo. "In this case, we're talking about the tangible effects of ongoing climate change, amplified by human activity. The crucial role of Earth Sciences lies precisely in studying the mechanisms that govern our planet, including those that lead us to encounter phenomena like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Deepening our knowledge in these areas means contributing, as scientists, to the Earth's sustainable and responsible development.".

The agenda of the Congress includes numerous topics that will allow us to combine our gaze towards our planet with that towards space: strategies for the natural resource management, technologies in favor of resilience of communities most exposed to natural risks, space exploration and possible future colonizations of new planets in fact, these will be just some of the proposed themes.
