The new edition of the scientific festival that will see INGV as the protagonist with a rich program of exhibitions, conferences and theatrical performances is also back in attendance
Back to Genoa, from the October 21 to the November 1, the new edition of Science Festival, the appointment for the dissemination of scientific culture among the most followed by the public at an international level, which has always been an opportunity for researchers to meet enthusiasts, schools and families.
The theme chosen for the 2021 edition of the Festival is "MAPS".
The participation ofNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will be articulated precisely on the theme of “Maps”. The maps, in fact, will be the guiding element that will unite the four thematic areas of the exhibition “Drawing the Planet. From the Sun to the heart of the Earth":
➢ “The beginning of the journey: destination Earth",
➢ “A unique planet: from the surface to the depths of the Earth”,
➢ “Beneath Our Feet: Earth Movements Yesterday and Today”,
➢ “Thalassa, the sea”.
This year's INGV proposal, set up in Doge's Palace munitioner, is to draw our planet with the public, bringing visitors closer to the issues faced every day by the Institute's researchers: from physics to geophysics, via geology, oceanography, seismology and volcanology.
A journey that from the Sun, crossing the earth's magnetic field and the ionosphere, will lead to the earth's surface and to the heart of the earth, allowing the curious and enthusiasts to find out more about earthquakes, volcanoes, seas and oceans thanks to the informative panels in the rooms and 3D experiences with augmented reality.
The exhibition “Drawing the Planet. From the Sun to the heart of the Earth" with its four thematic areas, it will also be available online on the INGV portal at the following address: https://www.ingv.it/it/musei-e-mostre/mostre/festival-scienza-2021
We also note the other appointments with INGV:
Tuesday, October 26 | 19:00
Teatro della Tosse of Genoa - Sala Trionfo
Theatrical Performance “Earthquakes, Totems and Taboos”, created in collaboration with Studio Bottoni.
A journey through the history of seismology in which scientists, psychologists, seismologists and clericals weave together the plots of the representation, accompanied by an inevitable ironic vein that will make the vision light and pleasant.
Monday, November 1st | 15:00
Palazzo Ducale, Historical Archive of the Municipality piazza G. Matteotti n. 10 (minor loggia)
Conference “Rising sea levels - Causes and impacts of a global phenomenon”
Realistic scenarios of coastal flooding through high-resolution maps capable of describing the expected phenomenon up to 2100.
Let's discover together the effects of sea level rise along the Mediterranean coasts and the analysis and prediction technologies that will be crucial to face the political choices to be adopted for the protection of the population and coastal infrastructures.
Finally, the Sections of Milan, Palermo and Pisa of INGV will take care of the remote activities dedicated to schools: digitour and seminars to discover the secrets of the laboratories, instruments and main research techniques that researchers deal with on a daily basis.
Thursday 21 October | 11:00 am | From the seabed to the analysis laboratory. What does a gas molecule of volcanic origin tell us
Monday 25 October | 12:00 | Minerals under the microscope. Visit to the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) Laboratory
Wednesday October 27 | 12:00 | Seismic histories: historical and instrumental data. Virtual visit to the INGV databases
