From the 5 12 October the appointment with the Planet Earth Week, the National Geosciences Festival now in its 13th edition.
The rich calendar also includes events throughout the country this year: excursions, walks, educational and experimental workshops, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, music and artistic activities to allow everyone to approach the world of Geosciences and discover how these can help improve the safety and quality of life for all of us.
The Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) participate in the event with numerous Geoevents, collected below.
Tuesday October 7 | 9:30 Leonardo Da Vinci State Comprehensive School, Mussomeli (CL)
Conference >> NEVERLAND
The seminar, organized by the INGV Palermo Section, is dedicated to Ferdinandea Island, which emerged in the Strait of Sicily in 1831 and then quickly disappeared below sea level. The aim of the event is to introduce students to the geology of the Sicilian territory, the volcanic dynamics affecting the Strait of Sicily, and submarine volcanism.

Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th October | 09:00 Nicolosi Etna Congress Center, Nicolosi (CT)
Activities, games with schools >> WANT TO KNOW THE HISTORY OF EUROPE'S MOST ACTIVE VOLCANO? ETNA: A WORLD HERITAGE SITE AND NATURAL LABORATORY
Through a multidisciplinary tour, researchers from the INGV Etna Observatory will explain the history and geology of this majestic volcano, a symbol of the Mediterranean and a World Heritage Site. Visitors will be able to see a scale model of the volcano, observe samples of volcanic rocks from Etna, interact with researchers, and learn about the research and monitoring activities conducted by the INGV. They will also be able to take part in a fun game to test their knowledge in an interactive and engaging way.

Thursday 13th October | 17:00 | DAMSLab - Department of the Arts, University of Bologna
Meeting with experts, quizzes, demonstrations >> A JOURNEY THROUGH THE NATURAL EVENTS THAT ANIMATE THE EARTH: A ZOOM IN ON ITALY
Activity managed by the INGV Bologna Section in collaboration with the Department of Physics and Astronomy (DIFA) of the University of Bologna
From the atmosphere to the depths of the Earth, a journey of experiments, encounters, and activities awaits you to explore the natural processes that animate our planet and our fascinating peninsula. We offer a journey through natural processes through demonstrations, quizzes, and exhibits. Researchers meet with adults and children to discuss the physics of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, atmospheric processes, and ocean currents. Learning to read nature's signals through science makes us more aware of the environment we inhabit and helps us better protect ourselves from its risks.

Thursday 9th and Friday 10th October | 9 hours: 00 and 11 hours: 00 | Auditorium of the A. Pacinotti State Scientific High School, La Spezia
Meeting with the experts, scientific game >> INVISIBLE FORCES: HOW THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD AFFECTS OUR LIVES
We'll interactively discover the hidden secrets of Earth's magnetic field and the processes that connect the Sun to Earth. An engaging event featuring a hands-on workshop and a digital challenge, this interactive experience will take you from Earth's core to space, following the magnetic field's lines of force and exploring all the curiosities surrounding it. A unique opportunity to explore, in a practical and fun way, a phenomenon that protects us every day, without us even realizing it.

Saturday October 11 | 9:00 | Carcavone Volcanic Cones, Pollena Trocchia (NA)
Meeting with experts, talk, excursion >> THE VOLCANIC CONES OF POLLENA TROCCHIA AND THE HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT VOLCANO OF SOMMA
In this geoarchaeological event, we will explore the Carcavone area, in Pollena-Trocchia, one of the most evocative in the Vesuvian area, inside a quarry of great interest to volcanologists for the display of the products erupted during the "Pollena eruption" of 472 AD. In the area, the Carcavone volcanic cones have also been identified, eruptive structures of the Somma volcano preceding the eruption of 79 AD. Furthermore, in the Pollena area, the remains of an ancient Roman villa with an adjoining thermal complex have been found. The site, discovered in 1988, was abandoned in the following years, only to be rediscovered in 2006, thanks to theApolline Project, which after the reclamation started an archaeological excavation that is still ongoing today.
