The video clips dubbed by the Catanian actor Leo Gullotta will be screened in Catania with which INGV "tells" the volcanoes to raise awareness among the inhabitants of the areas most exposed to volcanic risk in Italy
With an exclusive screening at Catania, Thursday 10 October 2019 at Palazzo Platamone will be presented i 14 video clips created by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) to tell the story of volcanoes and their impact on the territory.
The videos were shot in the context of the VolFILM international project, funded by the World Bank and sponsored by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Interior of the Earth (IAVCEI). The Italian version of the project, which joins the other languages including English, French, Spanish and Indonesian, was edited by INGV with the collaboration of an exceptional narrative voice, the Master Leo Gullotta, actor and dubber from Catania who enthusiastically joined the project free of charge.
In the presence of the Mayor of Catania Salvo Pogliese, the Councilor for Culture Barbara Mirabella, and the General Manager of the Sicilian Civil Protection Calogero Foti, the Director of the INGV Etna Observatory (OE-INGV) Stefano Branca, will represent the importance of initiative in the land of Catania.
The scientific speeches by the Director of the Volcanoes Department of the INGV Augusto Neri and by the volcanologists of the Institute Daniele Andronico and Micol Todesco will be moderated by Silvia Mattoni, journalist of the CNR, and will alternate with the viewing of experiential videos.
“One of INGV's missions is to disseminate risks and natural resources” explains Carlo Doglioni, President of the Institute. “Volcanoes are the expression of the Earth's breathing, they are living elements of nature and they replenish the atmosphere, but they are also a source of great danger: knowing them is the first step in defending ourselves. The production of videos of great visual impact is aimed at representing the various aspects of the activity of volcanoes with the power of images, so that their beauty becomes not only admiration of the force of nature, but an incentive to build a resilient society of aware citizens" .
“Italy is one of the nations most exposed to volcanic risk” underlines Augusto Neri, curator of the project for INGV together with his colleagues Daniele Andronico and Micol Todesco. “The Italian volcanoes, in particular those of Campania, Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei, constitute a potential danger for millions of people and the Sicilian ones, Etna and Stromboli, are among the most active in the world. The objective of the project is to promote, on a global level, a better understanding of volcanic phenomena by exposed populations, in order to increase knowledge of volcanic risk, especially in areas where this risk is higher or where there is no memory history of the effects of eruptions”.
The Italian version of the video clips will also be presented in other Italian cities in the coming months and are available on the INGV communication channels, on the channel YouTube “INGV volcanoes” https://bit.ly/2pIlxnl and on the VolFilm pages of 6040c1ecb3ba58fb545282cfae168f49-gdprlock
