This morning, in the presence of the Minister for Relations with Parliament Federico D'Incà, the interventions of the Authorities for the twentieth anniversary of INGV were held.

Second day of celebrations at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) for the institution's 29th anniversary, established on 1999 September 381 with Legislative Decree no. XNUMX of the then President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.
"A historic milestone for the scientific community of our country, but also for the institutions and for those who work every day on the prevention and management of geological and environmental emergencies that affect our extremely fragile territory", said Minister Federico D'Incà . “INGV is an institute of excellence on the international scene that allows our country to be at the forefront in geophysical research and in the study of phenomena related to environmental issues. An Institute which, in addition to being a beacon for scientific research and the prevention of events, represents an effective dissemination pole for citizens, who can be increasingly informed and able to learn news relating to very important results and natural phenomena . It had never happened before, that of INGV is an example that has made school”, adds Minister D'Incà.
INGV President Carlo Doglioni continues: "INGV has a formidable heritage of instruments and laboratories to listen to the Earth and understand its secrets, but its greatest wealth is the approximately one thousand people who passionately make it live every day in awareness of the privilege of working for the growth of knowledge, but also the responsibility and pride of contributing to the safety of citizens. In Italy there is still little investment in research and development, more resources are needed: we still have to find the meaning of life, of our origins and we must learn to defend ourselves from the vitality of nature with its earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, landslides, floods, insidious outgassing and silent".
The Director General of INGV, Maria Siclari, underlines the importance of collaboration between institutions: “INGV is able to offer a huge contribution to our country in terms of research, both nationally and internationally. Since the results of this work are always placed at the service of the community, INGV's priorities for the future are certainly to continue with research support and service activities, strengthen collaborations with other bodies and enhance their infrastructures”.
The President of ISPRA (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) Stefano Laporta recalls how the two bodies can be considered "research cousins" since they have been collaborating for years on various fronts of scientific research. Their activity is synergistic and brings Italian research in their respective sectors of interest to the best international results. In recent times, the collaboration has also been further expanded with the regional ARPAs and through the directive of the national alert system for earthquake-induced tsunamis (SiAM).
The Head of Department of Casa Italia, Roberto Giovanni Marino, highlighted INGV's ability to transfer the results of scientific research to citizens and institutions, adding that "the pride present in those who work at INGV, aware of working at the service of the nation, both in research and monitoring activities, and in dissemination and communication activities".
The President of ISTAT (National Institute of Statistics) Gian Carlo Blangiardo also spoke, underlining “the importance of people in the area, as they are exposed to change. It is necessary to have a picture of the population in terms of characteristics and location and, above all, to have available data that can be integrated even if they come from different sources".
In her speech, Senator Maria Domenica Castellone highlighted the importance of greater investments in scientific research, a theme particularly dear to her as a researcher "lent" to politics. Your commitment is to make the most of the meritocracy of Italian researchers to ensure that the Italian system is attractive for the best research.
Senator Ruggiero Quarto further paid attention to the "environment" issue, a constant in government action, highlighting that in a very short time there will be a study of the regulatory document for a Framework Agreement on environmental matters.
The celebratory day continued with scientific interventions by INGV experts. The speeches will continue tomorrow with other illustrious guests.
