A week of theory, field experiments and high technology to train young international scientists on the study of seismic faults in Irpinia and on the use of new geophysical infrastructures
From 22 28 to June will take place between Grottaminarda and Naples la School of the PNRR-MEET project, with focus on Near Fault Observatory of Irpinia.
The initiative, organized byNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in collaboration with the 'University of Naples Federico II and'University of Bari Aldo Moro, represents one of the most significant moments of the project financed with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Operational and symbolic hub of the project, the School fully embodies the spirit of Next Generation EU, welcoming 36 PhD students from many countries, including Iran, Pakistan, United States, Türkiye, India and Europe.
All currently engaged in research at various European universities, the participants will have the opportunity to confront the most modern technologies applied to the study of the deep dynamics of the Earth's crust.
During the training week, the young researchers will engage in activities ranging from theoretical lessons atInstallation of instruments in the field, untilanalysis and interpretation of collected dataThe program includes theuse of cutting-edge tools: Fiber optic sensors to capture seismic signals even of low magnitude, high resolution seismic nodes for local geophysical monitoring, and Multi-satellite GNSS receivers to observe ground deformation in real time.
Not just geophysics: Participants will also be introduced to the study of the interactions between tectonic, geochemical and magnetotelluric activity, thus adopting an approach multiparametric analysis of active faults.
The training course will end with the Visit to the Vesuvius Observatory of the INGV (INGV -OV).
