Il libro è stato curato dalla ricercatrice Sabina Porfido dell’ISA-CNR (Istituto di Scienze dell'Alimentazione del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche) e dalle ricercatrici dell’INGV - OV (Osservatorio Vesuviano dell’Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia) Giuliana Alessio, Germana Gaudiosi e Rosa Nappi.
Il volume, disponibile in formato PDF e cartaceo, raccogliere numerosi contributi che hanno come obiettivo la definizione e valutazione dell’hazard sismico attraverso l’analisi degli effetti ambientali indotti dai terremoti.
L'applicazione della scala di intensità sismica (ESI) 2007 ai terremoti moderati e forti, in diversi contesti geologici in tutto il mondo, evidenzia l'importanza degli effetti ambientali dei terremoti (EEE) per la valutazione del rischio sismico. L’apporto di nuove metodologie multidisciplinari risultano essenziali sia per l'identificazione e la caratterizzazione di aree sismicamente attive, sia per lo sviluppo di nuovi modelli di rischio.
All’interno 19 articoli peer-reviewed relativi a diverse aree del mondo: Italia, USA, Spagna, Australia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Corea del Sud, Kirghizistan, Mongolia, Russia, Cina, Giappone e Nepal, che forniscono interessanti ed utili indicazioni per la valutazione della pericolosità sismica in contesti differenti.
Hanno contribuito alla stesura del volume esperti ricercatori nazionali ed internazionali.

The MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute) book of Special Issue: New Perspectives in the Definition/Evaluation of Seismic Hazard through Analysis of the Environmental Effects Induced by Earthquakes Edited By: S. Porfido, G. Alessio, G. Gaudiosi, R. Nappi has been published in print edition and in PDF. This volume collects different papers that have as their objective the definition and evaluation of the seismic hazard through the analysis of the environmental effects induced by earthquakes. The application of the 2007 seismic intensity scale (ESI) to moderate and strong earthquakes, in different geological contexts around the world, highlights the importance of the environmental effects of earthquakes (EEE) for the assessment of seismic risk.
The contribution of new multidisciplinary methodologies are essential both for the identification and characterization of seismically active areas, and for the development of new risk models. The volume contains 19 peer-reviewed articles related to different areas of the world: Italy, USA, Spain, Australia, Ecuador, Guatemala, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, China, Japan and Nepal, which provide interesting and useful information for the assessment of seismic hazard in different contexts.
